GOV UGWUANYI LIFTS BAN ON KEKE, OKADA & TIPPER-TRUCKS
REPORTER: OKECHUKWU EZEONA
The leaderships of the Association of Tricycle Riders Union Enugu State, Motorcycle Transport Union of Enugu State Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Areas branches, and the Enugu State Tipper- Truck Union of Nigeria, have pledged to provide vital information to relevant security agencies to help curb and unravel criminality within their folds.
They gave the assurance during a meeting with Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, at Government House Enugu.
This followed the lifting of ban on their operations in some parts of Enugu South Local Government Area, and the entire Nkanu West and Nkanu East Council Areas.
They expressed regret that hoodlums, who operated in disguise, had infiltrated the associations to commit crime and tarnish their image, but vowed to fish them out and hand them over to the appropriate authorities.
The Chairmen of the unions, Messrs Benjamin Ikah, Okwudili Eze and Andrew Nweke, who spoke on behalf of their respective organisations, appealed to security agencies and local government authorities in their areas of operation to cooperate with them in their renewed effort to reduce crime and criminality in the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi while addressing them, urged the leaders of the associations to do all within their powers to fulfill their avowed commitment.
This is to ensure security of lives and property of the people of the state, and restore the confidence reposed in them by their passengers and partners.
The Governor therefore directed the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Miletus Eze, to immediately prepare an Executive Order vacating the ban.
Those who attended the meeting were the Enugu State Director, State Security Services, Mr. Habu Daluwa; the State Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr. Ahmed Garba; the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Simon Ortuanya; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Festus Uzor; the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Miletus Eze; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Mr. Steve Oruruo.
