GOV UMAHI WANTS AMENDMENT OF JUDICIARY AUTONOMY LAW

Ebonyi State Government says it has signed Judiciary financial autonomy bill into law to further strengthen the principle of separation of power.
Governor David Umahi announced this at a Special Court session marking the commencement of 2021/2022 Legal Year of the state Judiciary at the State High Court Abakaliki.
The Governor said though the judiciary financial autonomy was aimed at fighting corruption, the provisions were skewed against the Executive arm, hence the need for an amendment.
He said the state government would capture construction of courts and Judges quarters in the thirteen Local Government Areas in the 2022 budget.
The Chief Judge of the State, Justice Elvis Ngene, called on the State government to take a decision on the statutory fund to be allocated to the State Judiciary to end the long agitation on financial autonomy.
