EBONYI STATE GOVT ARRESTS SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVIST FOR ALLEGED PUBLICATION OF FAKE NEWS

Ebonyi State Government says there is no going back in its fight against fake news and malicious publications.
The Commissioner for Information in the State, Mr. Uchenna Orji, made this known while briefing journalists on the arrest of a social media activist, Godfrey Chikwere, over alleged dissemination of fake news at Government House Abakaliki.
Mr. Orji explained that the state government had enacted Cybercrime Prohibition Act, noting that Chikwere was arrested for allegedly contravening some sections of the law.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Loveth Odah, while confirming the arrest of Godfrey Chikwere on the orders of the state government, noted that he was rushed to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital after complaining of stomach pain while in detention.
Radio Nigeria gathered that until few months ago, Godfrey Chikwere was an employee of the state government as a Broadcaster.
