MICHAEL OKPARA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PROTEST AS TRAILER CRUSHES FEMALE STUDENT TO DEATH

Students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike have embarked on a peaceful protect against the death of one of them in an auto crash as a result of bad road in the area.
The students, who blocked some major roads in Umuahia, carried placards with inscriptions: “Come and work on our road,” “Justice for Chidimna, government should do the needful by rehabilitating our road.”
Speaking with journalists, the President, Students Union Government (SUG) Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Comrade Ogochukwu Chukwuma said they decided to embark on the protest due to the dilapidated condition of the road from Umudike to Ikot Ekpene axis that passed through the University.
The SUG President stated that a female student of the University, Miss Chidimna Ogbonna, was crushed to death by a trailer as a result of auto crash on the bad road.
He appealed to government to come to their aids by rehabilitating the bad portions of the road.
Addressing the protesting students, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe, commended the students for the mature manner they carried out the peaceful protect, stating that the University authority had already forwarded a letter to the Federal Road Maintence Agency FERMA for maintenance work on the road.
The protesters later moved to Government house where they were received by the Secretary to the state Hovernment, Mr. Chris Ezem, who promised to forward their complaint to the government.
