He was quickly rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
It says the assailants also beheaded a yet to be identified man and fled the scene.
At Afor Nkpor junction, three yet unidentified lifeless bodies were recovered, a burnt Toyota Hilux and a vandalized Toyota hummer bus was also seen at the scene.
It explains that the bodies were taken to the hospital and one of the bodies was identified as one Dr. Chike Akunyili.
Also the gunmen in an attempt to snatch a Lexus 350 vehicle on Agulu Road, shot the driver.
The attackers abandoned the victim and the car and fled while the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police decried the ugly development, and called for calm, while assuring the people of Anambra and residents alike that the Police Command was committed in enhancing public safety and peace.
Radio Nigeria gathered that late Dr. Akuyili was returning from an event in Onitsha where he received a posthumous award of excellence for his late wife, Dora, before he met his untimely death.
