IMO GOVT. TO FAST-TRACK TAKE OFF OF NEW STATE UNIVERSITY IN UMUAGWO

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State says he will tackle crime and unemployment through qualitative education to the youths. He was speaking when a delegation of the National Universities Commission paid him a courtesy visit in Owerri.

He said his administration would do everything within its means to fastrack the take-off of a new State University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences in Umuagwo, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. Governor Uzodinma noted that the new institution would not only provide more access to tertiary education but would promote technology-driven education in the State.

The Deputy Executive Secretary of NUC, Dr. Babatunde Yusuf said his team was in Imo to access the human and material resources on ground for possible take-off of the university.

He noted that conversion of the State polytechnic to University undertaken by the State Government was not a mean feat but advised the authorities to be meticulous in their choice of programmes and human resource. A detailed report of the verification visit of the NUC officials is still being awaited.
