The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit “Zone C” Owerri has seized goods with the duty paid value of three hundred and fifty one million naira in Edo and Delta States within the last four months. The Comptroller in charge of the Zone Mr. Kayode Olusemire made this known in Benin while displaying goods seized by the service in Edo and Delta States from March this year to date.

He said eleven exotic vehicles, ten thousand pieces of used tyres and two hundred bales of second hand clothing smuggled into the country were intercepted by his men. Mr. Olusemire described as worrisome the increase in importation of used tyres into the country and called on Nigerians not to patronize the dealers to reduce accidents caused by the expired tyres.
Mr. Olusemire also displayed bales of used hand bags and a container laden with imported rubber slippers that were confiscated by officers on patrol. He regretted that smugglers had continued to sabotage the nation’s economy despite efforts to discourage the trade but gave an assurance that service would not relent on the fight against importation of contraband band goods. The Service had one week ago displayed bags of foreign rice and bales of used clothing seized within Imo and Abia with the duty paid value of over ninety million naira.
