IMO STATE GOVT SETS UP COMMITTEE TO RESETTLE VICTIMS OF SOUTH AFRICAN XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State says his administration has set up an inter-ministerial committee to resettle people from the area who were recently evacuated from South Africa.

He made this known while receiving ninety one South African returnees at Government house, Owerri.

Imo State.

Chief Ihedioha said Government would assist them to start a new life, but urged them to put their experiences in South Africa behind to enable them to move on.

The Governor explained that the State Government had opened discussions with the Federal Government to find ways of reintegrating the victims of South African Xenophobic attacks to the society.

Some of the returnees who shared their experiences said they were forced to return to Nigeria by the level of violence meted on foreigners in South Africa.

The returnees were accompanied by officials of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri who had been assisting them since their emergency return two weeks ago.
