ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO TACKLE INSECURITY

Abia State government has inaugurated a committee on conflict resolution as part of measures to foster peace among various communities and religious groups in Umuahia South Local Government Areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Chairman Umuahia South Local Government Area, Mr. Ikechi Nnanta, said that the aim of setting up the committee was to bring all stakeholders, both in the security sector and communities in the area, to brainstorm on ways to tackle insecurity being witnessed in the area and also promote peace among one another.
He noted that the committee comprises of representatives from the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, the Immigration, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and traditional rulers from Umuahia South Local Government Area.
They are to look into the issue of farmers and herders clash as well as communal and boundary disputes in Umuahia.
The representative of the Hausa community in Umuahia South Local Government Area, Alhaji Hassan Abbas, advised youths in the area to shun acts capable of causing crisis.
Alhaji Abbas pledged to carry the message of peace down to his people for harmonious co-existence with their host communities.
