YELLOW FEVER OUTBREAKS: EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT PLANS MASS VACCINATION

Ebonyi State Government says an International Coordinating Group has completed processes for possible mass vaccination of residents of the state to stop further spread of yellow fever virus in the area.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike, stated this during a joint press briefing in Abakaliki.

Dr. Umezuruike explained that the vaccination would specifically cover those from the age of nine months and forty-four years as part of responses to contain the outbreaks which occurred in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.

“The summary of situation report is that since the outbreaks of yellow fever in Ebonyi state, we have recorded a total of nine positive cases, nine CR confirmed and six serology presumptive positive with two deaths among positive cases.

“The fact presently, we still have six patients on admission, three in Ndungene MDG Health Centre, one in Iboko Hospital and two at Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, however, the index case has been successfully managed and discharged from Ndugene MDGs Health centres,” Umezuruike narrates.
