POLICE ALERT KEKE OPERATORS OF ROBBER PASSENGERS IN ANAMBRA

The Police Command in Anambra State has warned tricycle operators in the area to be mindful of unscrupulous persons who pose as passengers, especially at nights.

The command says this is to avoid falling victim to tricycle snatching syndicates, who use the cover of the night to carry out their heinous crime.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Haruna Muhammed, explained that following a clamp down on robbery and handbag snatching syndicates at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, the criminals had devised a new operational approach.

According to the statement, Special Anti Robbery Squad arrested twenty-six years old Victor Okafor at Oba in Idemmili North local Government Area whose gang allegedly specialized in snatching tricycles while one tricycle was recovered from him.

The tricycle was reportedly snatched at a gun point from one Daniel Ogba from Nkpor Uno by two armed men who posed as passengers.

The statement further indicated that four suspects were arrested for allegedly drugging and abducting a fourteen year old at Anglican Girls’ School, Oba, on the July 17.

The four suspects and two others, who are now at large, were to taken
the girl to a building at Oba, where they robbed and had carnal knowledge of her for two consecutive days.

The statement indicated that the suspect confessed to be members of Junior Vikings, JVC.

The Police Public Relations Officer noted that in order to further stem the tide of cultism and other nefarious activities in the state, the Operation Puff Adder operatives in conjunction with Special Anti Cult Unit, raided various black spots where forty-four suspected cultists were arrested and ten of them taken to court.

The areas raided included Anaku, Omor, Nteje, Oko, Ogidi, Obosi, Ukwulu, Ihembosi.
