ABIA STATE GOVT TAKES STEP TO REFORM ITS INSTITUTIONS AND PARASTATALS

A Committee to facilitate reforms in critical institutions and parastatals in Abia State has been inaugurated by the State Government.

Inaugurating the Committee at Government House, Umuahia, Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, decried reports of institutional decay caused by faulty employment processes, salary padding, general wastage and lack of direction in some of the institutions and parastatals all of which had affected payment of salaries and performance of statutory functions.

Governor Ikpeazu charged the Committee to come up with recommendations that would assist in the delivery of democracy dividend to the people.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. UdeOko Chukwu, explained that emphasis would be on correcting the anomalies in the critical institutions and parastatals that had affected governance negatively.

The Governor who reaffirmed his determination to consolidate on his achievements by launching into areas that would bring the State into limelight, expressed confidence in the ability of the Committee members to come up with a report that would enable Government achieve its desired target and vision.

Earlier in his speech on behalf of other members of the Committee, the Chairman, Dr. Chukwuma Agu, assured the Governor that the assignment would be carried out in the best interest of the State, with unbiased recommendations.

Some of the institutions that the committee would look into include Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH, Abia Specialist And Diagnostic Centre, Umuahia, School Of Health, Aba, Abia State College Of Education Technical, Arochukwu, Hospitals Management Board [ HMB] the Judiciary, Local Government Service, Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and the State Civil Service.
