ELECTRICITY DROP: FIND OUT WHY DISCOS REJECT POWER SUPPLY —ABIA RESIDENTS TELL FG

REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

Some residents of Abia State want the federal government and players in the electricity sector to fashion out ways of ending cases of power rejection by distribution companies.

They made the call while reacting to a recent statement by the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, who decried the rejection of power by electricity distribution companies (DISCOS), resulting in power generation dropping by 1,400 megawatts after a peak of 5,170 me was recorded.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, a resident, Mr. Nnamdi Ogbonna, wondered why such rejections should be going on at a time Nigerians were in critical need of power, given the high cost petrol to run their generating sets.

He called on President Bola Tinubu to take cogent steps to tackle the issue and ensure that power generation and distribution are ramped up.

Another resident, Mr. Chibuzor Okeiyi, said there was the need to find out exactly why distribution companies were rejecting power allocated to them with a view to finding lasting solutions for the benefit of Nigerians.

An Electrical Engineer, Dr. Gerald Okwe, called for proper regulatory frameworks to be put in place and implemented fully to prevent such rejection and its attendant economic implications.

He lamented that old infrastructure was seriously affecting the power sector and called for replacement with modern ones to ensure effective transmission of electricity which would also discourage cases of rejection.
