WITHHELD SALARIES: SSANU/NASU PROTEST IN ABIA

The Joint Action Committee of Non-academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State have joined their counterparts nationwide to stage a peaceful protest against government’s failure to pay them their withheld four months salaries of 2022.

Addressing members of the unions at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, the National Vice President SSANU, Comrade Ken Njoku, wondered why the Federal Government had continued to delay in paying them withheld four months salaries but had paid those of the Acamedic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

He also appealed to government to release all the arrears of 25% and 35% salary increase to its members as well as to stop the use of divide and rule system in the universities.

Comrade Njoku noted that both the teaching and non teaching staff of the universities are playing great roles towards the progress of the institutions.

In his contribution, the branch Chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Comrade Ifeanyi Ohambele, also lent his voice in appealing to Federal Government to pay both the four months withheld salaries and their other entitlements.

Members of the two unions carried placards with inscriptions, including “Pay our outstanding wage award,” “FG pay us our four months withheld salaries,” “Stop divide and rule system in the University system,” “25/35 percent wage award salaries increase are yet to be paid.”
