President Bola Tinubu wants traditional rulers to continue to support the efforts of his administration in ending insecurity, fostering unity and accelerating development of the nation.

He gave the charge in a message to the inauguration of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council held in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council is an umbrella of royal fathers across the southern region of the country.

The council constitutes monarchs from the South east, south south and south west geo-political zones of the country.

The aim of the Council is to promote peace, unity and mutual respect for the diverse culture of the people.

In a message to the inauguration of the body in Owerri, President Tinubu said royal fathers had a duty to complement the efforts of the government in tackling the challenges facing the country.

The President represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, explained that the federal government had made investments in agriculture to achieve food security, fight unemployment and enhance the wellbeing of Nigerians while appealing to them to discourage the youths from participating in the planned nationwide protest.

The Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodimma, and his Ogun State counterpart, Chief Dapo Abiodun, urged the traditional rulers to shun politics, propagate peace and support government at all levels in bettering the lots of the people.

The Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, explained that the royal fathers would be guided by national interest while intensifying efforts to champion the cause of the people of the region.

King Jaja of Opobo, Danderson Douglas-Jaja; the Obong of Calabar Okon, Abasi otu, the Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchuku and the Obi of Obinugwu, Eze Cletus Ilomunanya, who is a Co-chairman of the Council were among the prominent monarchs that attended the event.
