The Police Command in Anambra State has condemned the attack on the Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat by armed arsonists.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Nnaghe Itam, said the attack, which resulted in the destruction of four patrol vehicles belonging to the vigilantes was an act of cowardice.

He said there were no casualties.

The Police Commissioner explained that preliminary information indicated that the assailants, arriving in large numbers on motorcycles and a vehicle, began shooting indiscriminately.

He said the assailants faced strong resistance from the Vigilante Operatives until the police response team arrived.

According to Mr. Itam, the superior firepower of the security operatives forced the gunmen to flee from the scene.

He pointed out that in response to this incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations led a joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, and other security agencies to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

The Police Boss said there were ongoing onslaught operations to apprehend the culprits.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement, said the Commissioner of Police had commended the security operatives for their bravery and assured members of the public of continued and strengthened collaboration in the fight against criminal elements in the State.
