The Imo State Police Command has assured residents of the area of the determination of the force to stamp out all forms of gender-based violence against vulnerable persons in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the state, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, gave the assurance at a workshop organized for senior police officers to increase their knowledge on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act in Owerri.

He noted that the training would equip the law enforcement agents to eradicate the culture of impunity, protect the dignity of vulnerable persons and ensure that survivors of violence received necessary support.

Some of the participants, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chijioke Nwokeoma; and the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Henry Okoye, said the training had enriched their knowledge and appealed to residents to report any case of abuse to the command.

The Director of Programmes of a nongovernmental organization that is advocating against gender-based violence, Alliances for Africa, Mrs. Blessing Duru, identified the police, religious and traditional rulers as strategic in the fight against all forms of abuse and appealed for collaboration to check the crime.

The training was attended by divisional police officers, area commanders and key staff of the gender unit of the Imo State Police Command.
