NPC BEGINS DIGITAL BIRTH REGISTRATION IN EBONYI

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The National Population Commission (NPC) in collaboration with UNICEF has embarked on digital registration of births for quality data representation of young Nigerians.

The NPC Federal Commissioner in charge of Ebonyi State, Dr. Jeremiah Nwankwegu, made this known at the training of adhoc staff for a statewide digital registration of children from 0—5 years in Abakaliki.

He pointed out that birth registration was conducted in analogue way for years, but noted that the digital registration was to ensure quality data collection and economic planning.

The Acting State Director National Population Commission, Mrs. Agnes Etche, said a total of 750 adhoc staff would be deployed to the field after the training.

The Head, Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Department, Mrs. Gloria Chima, said the full digitalization of birth registration would provide unhindered access to the data of Nigerians with a simple click.
