NDLEA PARTNERS SWAN TO CURB DRUGS AMONG SPORTING TALENTS

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

Young talented youths have been advised to shun drugs as they pursue a career in sports.

The Commander Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State, Mr. Ogbonna Onyishi, gave the advice when he received members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Awka.

According to NDLEA Commader, athletes should subject themselves to constant training and professionalism in order to attain the pinnacle of their chosen sports rather than doing drugs, which is a crime capable of derailing their dreams.

Mr. Onyisi said the agency was applying two prongramme approaches of supply reduction and demand reduction with the aim of bringing everybody on board.

The NDLEA boss in Anambra State noted that the agency would be willing to partner SWAN in sensitising the youth to compete clean.

In a remark, the State SWAN Chairman, Chimezie Anaso, expressed the readiness of the association to work with NDLEA in the campaign against drugs in sports.

Anaso called on NDLEA to use sports as a veritable preventive and rehabilitation tool by encouraging youths to engage in sports.

According to Anaso, “while the NDLEA prevents drug abuse, SWAN promotes sports and so there is a symbiotic relationship that both can explore to achieve a drug free and healthy society.”
