HUNGER PROTEST FAILS IN ABIA

Residents of Abia State have shunned the End Bad Governance and Hunger Nationwide Protest, which commenced today, (August 1) across the country.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who went round Umuahia, the Abia State capital, observed that protesters were not seen anywhere but most banks, motor parks, filling stations and markets remained closed for fear of attack by hoodlums.

At the state Secretariat and Local Government council Umuahia, some workers were seen at their various offices carrying out their duties.

When contacted on telephone, the Police Public Relations officer, Abia State Police Command, Mrs. Maureen Chinaka, said the entire state was peaceful and that their was no official report of any protest in any part of the state.

She urged residents of the state to go about their normal legitimate businesses as security operatives were ever ready to protect them and their properties.

Meanwhile the protest which was effective in some northern and south Western zones, including Lagos and Abuja is scheduled to last until August 10, 2024.
