REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU

At least eight persons have lost their lives in an attack at Umucheke village in Okwe Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.

Radio Nigeria gathered that about seven community leaders and the President General of the area were holding a meeting on Saturday when gunmen stormed the venue, which is a shop near the village market and opened fire on them.

The gunmen allegedly set the shop on fire shortly after the shooting and thereafter fled the scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer Imo state command, Mr. Henry Okoye, has described the incident as unfortunate.

He blamed the incident on the activities of members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and added that the command had commenced investigation to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
