FRSC PLANS MOTHERS AGAINST ROAD CRASHES CAMPAIGN IN ANAMBRA

REPORTER: OBY ARINZE

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, says it will launch a new project to be named MARC, which means Mothers Against Road Crashes.

The project is designed to enlighten mothers on road safety regulations.

The first female Sector Commander, FRSC, Anambra State Sector Command, Mrs. Nnennaya Alexander, announced this when the executive and some members of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Anambra State Chapter, led by its Chairperson, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, paid her a courtesy visit in Awka.

The NAWOJ Chairperson said the visit was a gesture of support and goodwill to foster a closer working relationship between the body of female journalists and FRSC, aimed at promoting road safety.

She called the attention of FRSC to the rate of fatal road crashes across the state, which she described as worrisome.

Comrade Ifejika appealed to FRSC to checkmate issues of neglect of seat belts by drivers, drunk driving and other reckless behaviours by drivers.

NAWOJ Chairperson highlighted the role of the media in public enlightenment, promising that members would offer their media outlets in spreading the message of road safety.

In her welcome speech, the Sector Commander, Mrs. Nnennaya Alexander stated she had come to spread the message of safety and ensure that the citizens obey traffic regulations.

The FRSC boss pointed out that ignorance and recklessness contribute to road crashes.

She said, “In few weeks time, FRSC will engage in public enlightenment and your partnership is highly solicited.”

Mrs. Alexander also solicited the continued support of the state government to function effectively.
