FG UNVEILS PROPOSED TRANS SAHARA SUPERHIGHWAY IN EBONYI

The Federal Government has unveiled a proposed Trans Sahara Superhighway project to connect South South, South East and North Central zones of the country.

Speaking at a “Stakeholders Engagement” for the project at Government House Abakaliki, the Minister of Works, Chief David Umahi, explained that the road would open up an economic corridor for the conveyance of farm produce from the zones when completed.

The Superhighway measuring 477 kilometers will emanate from Odukpani in Cross River State and traverses through Ndibe Beach in Afikpo and Ishieke Mbeke all in Ebonyi State, Ulay -Igumale in Benue State, Kogi, Nasarawa before terminating at Apo in Abuja.

The Minister of Works explained that the project was a spur of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and would be the third legacy Project of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He called on the people of the state to support the project, noting that the design had been made in such a way as to minimize the destruction of property.

Governor Francis Nwifuru explained that that people of the state would support the project, emphasizing that his administration recognized the critical role the Superhighway would play in the lives of the people of the area.

The Director of Highways South East, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr. Bede Obioha, noted that the project had been divided into four sections with six lanes and a rail line.

Radio Nigeria gathered that another spur of the project from Enugu-to Ebonyi linking Ogoja in Cross River State had commenced.
