FG INAUGURATES A 100 BED HOSPITAL IN ABIA

A one hundred bed Sustainable Development Multi-purpose Hospital constructed and equipped by the federal government has been inaugurated in Abia State.

During the ceremony at Obeaja Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, Dr. Adejoke Adefuliren explained that the hospital was renamed from Mother and Child Hospital to Multipurpose Hospital to accommodate everyone.

Dr. Adefuliren noted that the project was initiated under former President Muhammadu Buhari and expressed joy for realizing the dream of the initiative under the present administration.

She explained that similar projects had been executed across other states of the federation under the Sustainable Development Goals to promote the standard of living.

In a remark, Governor Alex Otti thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to the healthcare sector and the renaming the SDG Mother and Child Hospital to a Multipurpose Hospital to accommodate other members of the society.

Governor Otti highlighted the 2001 Abuja Declaration, in which other African countries pledged to allocate at least fifteen percent of their budgets to healthcare, pointing out that Abia State’s 2024 budget met the target.

Governor Otti, who assured that the state government would assume the management of the newly completed hospital, promised 24-hour security, additional land for the building of doctors’ quarters, and the establishment of a facility management team to maintain high standards.

In an address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeyinwa Uma-Kalu commened Governor Alex Otti for changing the narratives in the healthcare services and described the project as another milestone towards achieving a sustainable and efficient healthcare services in the heal care ecosystem of the state.
