EBONYI SUSPENDS PENSION PAYMENT

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Ebony State Government has suspended the payment of pension to retired civil servants over continuous increase in their wage bill.

This was part of the resolutions reached at this week’s State Executive Council meeting held at Government House Abakaliki.

Briefing journalists, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Uchenna Orji, explained that the government had discovered that some deceased pensioners were still being paid pension in the state.

He noted that as a result of the discovery, the Council had approved revalidation and verification of all pensioners beginning with retired Permanent Secretaries and Directors in the state.

The Commissioner said the State Executive Council also approved the establishment of Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission and mandated the Attorney General of the State to draft a law for the Commission.
