EBONYI LG POLL: GOV NWIFURU BLAMES LOW TURNOUT OF VOTERS TO RAIN & FARMING ACTIVITIES

Local Government in Ebonyi State went on in the 171 wards of the state with some polling units visited recording poor turn out of voters.

Governor Francis Nwifuru cast his ballot at Edukwu Okemini Polling Unit 002 located at Oferekpe Agbaja Primary School II of Anyanwuigwe Ward in Izzi Local Government Area.

He voted alongside alongside his wife and supporters.

In an interview, Governor Nwifuru pointed out that the election was a confirmation of his administration’s unwavering commitment to sustaining democracy at the grassroots.

Governor Nwifuru blamed the poor turnout of voters on people’s involvement in farming activities and the rains.

He said though he was still studying the ruling by the Supreme Court over Local Government autonomy, there was the need for all Governors in Nigeria to ensure that democratically elected officials control local government affairs.

While monitoring the election at Polling Unit 002, Oferekpe Agbaja, a voter Roseline Uka said she was happy to have cast her vote for the candidate of her choice.

Another voter, Samuel Nwazuoge commended the state government for being consistent in the conduct of local government election.

Radio Nigeria gathered that 11 political parties are participating in the election.

Meanwhile, there was rainfall across Ebonyi State starting from the early hours of the day and lasting till afternoon, a situation that affected turn out of voters.
