ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY CONFIRMS LG TRANSITION MEMBERS

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the list of nominees sent to it by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for consideration as Transition Committee (TC) Members.

In a letter read by the Speaker, Mr. Uche Okafor, the Governor prayed the lawmakers to confirm the nominees for transition in the local government system of the state.

The Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor, while moving a motion dissolving the house into committee of the whole, noted that the house could only confirm nominees for a period of three months, after which they could be renominated, if the Governor wished to retain them.

During the session, the house in an electoral college, invited the nominees individually and confirmed them after finding them worthy to serve in their respective positions.

However, the nominees for Akpo and Akiliozizor wards were not confirmed following allegations of irregularities in their nomination by the member representing Aguata Constituency one, Dr. Cater Umeoduagu, and his counterpart representing Ogbaru, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze.

The member representing Anambra East, Mr. Obinna Emeneka, described the newly elected Chairmen as credible and vibrant persons, who would replicate the leadership ideals of Governor Soludo at the various jurisdictions.

Mr. Emeneka, who noted that the TC members could not serve for more than one year, expressed the hope that the new administration would conduct local government election, as promised by the Governor.

Radio Nigeria gathered that only two women made the list of twenty one local government Transition Committee chairmen.
