ABIA STATE SPORTS COUNCIL TO GET OPERATIONAL VEHICLE SOON — HOS

Over 300 participants at a one day capacity building organized for the staff of the Abia State Sports Council have been urged to leverage on the exercise to create significant impact in the civil service.

Declaring the seminar open at the Umuahia Township Stadium, with the theme, “the roles and expectations of Abia State Sports Council in Sustaining the Present Developmental Strides in Sports in Abia State,” the Head of Service (HOS), Dr. Queen Obioma, said the workshop would upgrade the capacity of the staff.

Dr. Obioma explained that the capacity building for the workforce in the state was in line with the policy thrust of Governor Alex Otti.

The HOS applauded the Director of Sports and his management team for coming up with the training and appreciated the achievements made by the Abia State Sports Council within a period under view and pledged to provide the Council with operational vehicle.

Also, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Nwaobilor Ananaba, represented by Mr. Eric Asumogha, identified training as panacea for improvements and achieving set goals.

The Commissioner noted that everyone had a role to play in sustaining sports in the state.

Earlier in a Lecture, entitled “Morals in the discharge of our duties,” the Special Adviser to the Governor on Policies and Intervention, the Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, urged the participants to build public trust and promotes accountability, shun misconduct and fosters positive organizational culture.

In his remarks, the State Director of Sports, Comrade Obioma George, said the essence of the seminar was to sustain the strides already made by members of the Sports Council under the present administration.

Comrade Obioma enumerated various strides of the Council, including clinching of Gold and Silver medals in Para- power lifting, Para badminton, Judo, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Basketball, Volleyball as well as growth in individual officials in Abia Sports Council.

He highlighted some challenges of the Council and appealed for assistance in the areas of operational vehicle to assit mobility athletes, especially during outside competition.

He assured the state government that the Council would continue to make Abia proud.
