ABIA STATE GOVT SET TO INCREASE ALLOWANCES OF YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS

REPORTER: LAWRENCE NWOKEDI

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Ott, says the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) established in 1973 by federal government has contributed immensely to the socio-economic and political development of the country.

Governor Otti stated this during the Swearing-in of 2024 batch B Stream 2 Corps members at the permanent orientation camp in Umunna Bende Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Cyril Nwaigwe, described the scheme as “one of the few positive legacies of the nation in the past three decades as it affects youth programmes.”

He noted that his administration was poised to give the scheme in the state one of the best orientation camps in the country, stating that plans were under way to increase the state allowances of Corps Members posted to the state, particularly in public schools.

In an address the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Gladys Adama, assured the Abia State Government of NYSC’s commitment to the development of the state.

This is mainly in the areas of health care delivery, education, agriculture and rural infrastructure.

Meanwhile, 2,000 corps members participated in the swearing in conducted by Justice Chido Wakama.
