ABIA DEMOLISHES CRIMINAL HIDEOUT IN CATTLE MARKET

REPORTER: PEACE AGBO

Abia State Government says that the recent demolition of shanties at a section of the Lokpanta Cattle Market, Umunneochi Local Government Area is to dislodge hoodlums, who have turned the area into a hideout to perpetuate criminal activities.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. Eze Chikamnayo, made this known while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council Meeting held at Government House Umuahia.

Dr. Chikamnayo said the demolition was to ensure that those who terrorized the communities had no hiding place, noting that the action was not to witch-hunt anyone.

He noted that no responsible government would fold its hands and watch a few disgruntled elements convert a section of its land to engage in nefarious activities.

He said that the state government had begun setting up about Eight check points within the Umunneochi LGA, which would be manned by a combined team of security agencies to ensure that there was no hiding place for criminal elements in the state.

The information boss blamed the recent upsurge in crime in the state on the presence of criminal elements dislodged in the ongoing flush out by security agencies within neighbouring states.

He warned that any property where terrorists and other criminal elements were found, would be demolished.

Dr. Chikamnayo reiterated that the Abia State Government was working tirelessly to reduce the incidences of crime in the area, urging communities to take ownership of security in their localities.

He commended security agencies in Abia for being alive to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property of residents and citizens alike.
