ABIA STATE TO BENEFIT FROM EUROPEAN SUPPORTED SOLAR FOR HEALTH PROJECT

Abia health institutions are to benefit from an European supported progamme tagged “Nigeria Solar for Health Project.”
Briefing journalists at the government house Umuahia, after this week’s executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Culture Prince Okey Kanu, announced that the state was among the five states selected for the project and would provide 30% of counterpart funding.
Prince Kanu noted that the provision of the solar powered light would not only benefit the health institutions but all those that live around such health institutions.
Prince Kanu, stated an approval was given for the provision of running cost for school heads in the state to address issues of illegal fee collections and alleviate pressure on schools.
On the transport sector, the Commissioner said efforts were in progress to ensure safety and security of citizens by registering commercial vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles.
He urged those affected to comply with the ongoing registration process before the commencement of enforcement by the government.
Contributing, the Chairman of the Abia State Unified Task Force and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, explained that it was a policy of the State government aimed at identifying owners and operators of commercial vehicle in the state.
He maintained that the measure would go a long way towards helping security agents in their operations.
