GUNMEN ATTACK OGBARU COUNCIL HEADQUARTERS IN ANAMBRA

Yet to be identified gunmen have attacked the Secretariat of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The gunmen launched the attack at about 5am on Friday, setting some buildings within the headquarters on fire.

An eye witness, who lives very close to the local government headquarters, narrated that the gunmen numbering over 30 masked their faces while wielding heavy weapons as they matched towards the Secretariat.

The eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, told Radio Nigeria that the gunmen parked their vehicles at Akili Ozizor, then walked down to carryout the dastardly act.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in Anambra State, has confirmed the incident in a statement.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement said that the attack was foisted by the gallant officers of the state, who resisted the gunmen.

The statement further explained that no life was lost in the attack, even though some property were affected in the Secretariat.

It added that a joint security operation was still ongoing in the area.
