The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has expressed resolve to intensify the campaign against Gender-based Violence (GBV) and harmful social norms in the state.

Mrs. Otti made this known in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the United Nations Population Fund, (UNFPA) Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Social Norms Summit organised in Abuja.

Mrs. Otti said that in a demonstration of leadership and commitment to the advancement of gender equality, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, led the historic signing of a compact with the UNFPA during the UNFPA Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Social Norms Summit.

Mrs. Otti said the event was attended by wives of governors from across the country, each of whom, alongside Senator Tinubu, signed the agreement to dismantle harmful social norms and tackle the widespread issue of gender-based violence.

“Senator Tinubu’s pivotal role in this initiative reflects her profound dedication to fostering a safer and more equitable society for women and girls the country.

“The compact signals a united front, with influential leaders across the nation prioritising the empowerment of women and girls,” Mrs. Otti remarked.

The wife of Abia State Governor said increasing the campaign against GBV and harmful social norms was necessary in the achievement of gender equality and equity in the state and the country at large.

Mrs. Otti said that to further strengthen her resolve she recently joined the First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, alongside wives of governors from across the nation to sign a compact with the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA.

She further said that through this partnership stakeholders would be greatly empowered to confront harmful practices and create a lasting change for women and girls.

Mrs. Otti commended Sen. Tinubu for consistently championing the rights and welfare of women and described her as a leading figure in the ongoing efforts to uplift women in Nigeria.
