NLC IN ABIA PROTESTS POLICE INVITATION OF ITS NATIONAL PRESIDENT

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abia State has joined its counterparts nationwide to staged a peaceful procession in solidarity with the President of the Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

Comrade Ajero was invited by the Nigeria Police over alleged terrorism charges against him.

Addressing journalists in Umuahia, the 2nd Vice Chairman NLC Abia State, Comrade Stella Onokiojare, said the procession was, interlaced with a prayer session at the Police headquarters.

She said members of the Congress would continue with the protest until Comrade Ajaero concluded his interaction with the Police in Abuja.

According Comrade Onokiojare, labour would embark on indefinite strike nationwide if the NLC President is detained by the Police.

Receiving members of the NLC at the Police headquarters Umuahia on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Mr Chris Okoro, commended them for their peaceful procession.

He urged them not to allow miscreants to hijack the procession and prayers

Members of the Labour marched on major roads in Umuahia carrying placards with inscriptions — “Police leave Comrade Joe Ajaero alone and face insecurity in the country,” “Detain Ajaero and labour will shut down the country,” and “Labour is fighting for the welfare of workers in the country.”
