ENDBADGOVERNANCE: WHY WE SHUNNED PROTEST ABIA RESIDENTS SPEAK OUT

REPORTER: PEACE AGBO

As the End bad governance protest continues in some parts of the country, some residents of Abia State say they are not part of the protest following the advice of their political leaders to ensure absolute peace in the state and entire southeast zone.

The residents made their feelings known when Radio Nigeria went round Umuahia metropolis to ascertain why they shunned the protest.

Umuahia, the Capital City of Abia State has been a beehive of activities as government offices, shops and markets open for transactions since the commencement of the #Endbadgovernance protest.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, two residents, Mr. Chijioke Chukwu and Mr.Solomon Enyinnaya said though economic hardship was biting harder, they chose not to protest because they believed in dialogue rather than marching on the streets.

They argued that inflation in the country did not start with the present administration but was as a result of unabating banditry, insecurity and corruption, which had affected all sectors of the economy.

Other residents, Chief Daniel Akwari and Mrs. Nkechi Chinedum, said though the protesters had good intentions, they resolved to heed the advice of the Deputy Speaker, Chief Benjamin Kalu on the need to give government time to address the contentious issues.

Contributing, Mr. Martins Azubuike and Mr. Emerson Emenike, claimed the period was not suitable for protest.

They noted that President Tinubu recently assented the Southeast Development Commission.

They, however, appealed to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to adjust some of the policies of his administration for the peace of the nation.
