FRCN DG VISITS ENUGU, PROMISES IMPROVED BROADCAST SERVICES, STAFF WELFARE

Listeners to Radio Nigeria Stations and Nigerians across board have been assured of incisive news and programmes, with professionalism at the core.

The Director General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, who gave the assurance during Staff Forum held at Sam Nwaneri Pavilion, Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Station, also stated his commitment towards repositioning the corporation for the better.

The Forum, which came on the sidelines of promotion interview for some staff of management cadre, also saw the Director General and his management team embarking on facility inspection at the Broadcast House, Enugu and the transmitting station at Ngwo.

Dr. Bulama noted that immediate measures were being taken to ensure that Radio Nigeria Coal City FM 92.9, Enugu, gets back on air, having being off-air for a while now, owing to recent thunderstorm that destroyed component parts of its transmitters at Ngwo, Enugu State.

The Director General and other members of the Central Management Committee (CMC), having been conducted round the Broadcasting House and the Transmitting Station at Ngwo, by the Zonal Director, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, directed that feeder cables, console and lightening system be replaced for optimal performance.

Dr. Bulama, who emphasized that staff training and facility upgrade were of utmost priority to his administration, stressed the need for staff to be dedicated to duty, imbibe maintenance culture, respect and work seamlessly with constituted authority for actualization of set goals.

He assured the staff that plans were on to provide solar power source to the station as a way of addressing the power challenges, while the Short Wave and Medium Wave bands would be resuscitated.

As part of the interactive session, some members of staff commended the Director General for the sincere and practical steps he had taken so far towards repositioning the corporation.

They implored the Director General for timely conduct of staff promotion, conversion of some long serving artistes to staff, replacement of obsolete equipment, training and re-training of staff, as well as better welfare.

The Director of News, FRCN, Mrs. Husseina Bashika, later held meeting with the News Staff, with focus on issue based reports as a way of highlighting and seeking solution to societal ills and facilitating development of the country.
