REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Ebonyi State Government has approved the release of over N600 million for the procurement of some machines and fittings to improve the production capacity of the state owned Pipe Production company, Ezzamgbo.

This was made known to journalists in a joint press briefing by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Jude Okpor and and his counterpart in the Commerce and Industry, Mr. Oguzor Ofianwali, at Government House Abakaliki.

Mr. Okpor explained that the money was approved at the State Executive Council Meeting in line with Governor Francis Nwifuru’s determination to make the state a pipe production hub in Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Ofianwali, said the state government had invested about one billion naira in its efforts to revive the Company, which was vandalized during last administration.

He noted that the approved fund would be used to purchase High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPR) pipes and Polyvinyl Chloride, (PVC) injections fittings, moulds and accessories which would increase the number of production lines.

Also approved during the Council meeting was the reinvestment of part of dividends the state government received from their investments in the banking sector and the amendment of the Law establishing Ebonyi State Road Maintenance Agency (EBROMA).
