STUDENTS IN EXIT CLASSES RESUME FOR ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES IN ABIA

Pupils and students in Primary Six, Junior Secondary School Three and Senior Secondary School Six in public and private schools have resumed for academic activities in Abia State. This followed earlier announcement made by the Federal Government on school resumption to enable pupils and students in exit classes to conclude their examinations in accordance with the stipulated guidelines on COVID-19 preventive measures.

In some of the schools visited by Radio Nigeria including, World Bank Model Primary School 1, Ibeku Central School, Ndume and Ibeku Junior High School, Umuahia, students were seen cleaning the compound and classrooms while teachers were also preparing for commencement of academic activities.  Buckets of water were provided at the entrance gates with liquid soap for hand washing as pupils and students were mandated to wear their face mask.

Radio Nigeria also observed that in some schools were teaching and learning had commenced, students were allowed to sit just two persons in a row and not more than twenty people in a classroom.

In an interview, the Principal, Ibeku Junior High School, Umuahia, Mrs Erimma Dike explained that the school had received some Personal Preventive Equipment from the Government and urged parents and guardians to release their children as academic activities had commenced.

Some of the Junior Secondary School Three students, including Miss Joy Odo and Miss Kalu Chidera expressed happiness over the school resumption and advised other students to adhere to the Coronavirus preventive guidelines.

As at the time of filling this reports some of the schools visited were yet to receive  thermometer to check students temperature.
