SOUTH-EAST/SOUTH-SOUTH LEADERS PLEDGE REGIONAL CORPORATION

AKWAIBOM GOVGovernor South-East and South-South geopolitical zone of the country have pledged to pursue an interregional integration for economic benefit of the regions. The Chairman of the forum and the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Emmanuel Udom announced this after he was unanimously appointed to the position during the meeting of the governors in Enugu.

Governor Udom told journalists   that the regions would collaborate to address common issues affecting the area.

“Having reviewed the state of the nation, particularly as it affects us in the South-South and South-East regions, agreed to politically work together and re-align as a people that share common heritage, culture and affinities,” he said.

In an address, the Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi expressed satisfaction with the meeting, noting that it would strengthen the ties between the regions.

“This meeting will fundamentally help us understand ourselves better, re-kindle brotherhood, strengthens both ties and corporation and set a common regional agenda in the socio-economic and political development of our regions and the nation. After all, the cardinal essence of government is the welfare and security of the people and we are better off working together.”

Meanwhile, another meeting between the two regions will be held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on July 27, 2017.
