PDP APPEALS TO SECURITY AGENCIES TO BE NEUTRAL IN EKITI GUBER ELECTION
The People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Anambra State has appealed to security agencies especially the Police to be non-partisan in Saturday’s Governorship election in Ekiti State. The Chairman of the Party in the State, Mr Ndubuisi Nwobu made the plea at Police Headquarters in Amawbia.
He said that what happened at Ekiti Government House was shocking and a pointer that security agencies should be more careful ahead of the election in the State. Mr Nwobu claimed that such a situation posed a serious threat to the nation’s hard earned democracy.
Responding on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Garba Umar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Administration, Mr Chris Owolabi, commended them for their peaceful conduct. Mr Umar advised them to continue to be peaceful in their dealings.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the distribution of sensitive materials in readiness for tomorrow’s Governorship election in the State.
NAN Correspondent reported that the materials which were being moved from the Ado Ekiti Branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the headquarters of each of the sixteen Local Governments Areas, were accompanied by fully armed security men.
As at 1pm on Wednesday, long queues of INEC delivery vans were seen at the Ado Ekiti branch of the CBN, waiting for the materials.
Spokesman for INEC in the State, Alhaji Taiwo Gbadegesin told newsmen that apart from using the police to secure the materials, the commission was also tracking all the vehicles that conveyed them to guard against possible hijack.
