More Than 300 Health Care Workers Trained For Emergency Cases in LGAs of Abia State

The Abia State Government says it will continue to give adequate priority to the health sector.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu stated this in a message to the opening Ceremony of Heart Saver first AID and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator Courses for military and para-military personnel in Umuahia, Abia State.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Ude Oko Chukwu pointed out that on assumption of office, his administration placed health as one of the five pillars of development in the State.

He noted that his administration has in the last four years constructed at least one primary health care center in each of the political wards in the State.

Governor Ikpeazu urged the participants to take the training seriously stating that it would help in saving more lives.

In a remark, the Medical Director Abia State Emergency Medical

Services, Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwakanma said that the aim of the program was to train first responders on ways to handle Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator cases as well as provide first aid to patients.

He stated that three hundred and sixty five health care workers had been trained to handle emergency cases in all the Local Government Areas of the state.

The Medical Director, Federal Medical Center FMC Umuahia, Dr. Azubuike Onyebuike commended the organizers of the program and pledged that the center would partner in making the program a success.

Men of the Nigerian Army, the Navy, the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Prisons, Federal Road Safety Corps and Fire service are attending the one week training course.
