MICHAEL OKPARA UNIVERSITY SUSPENDS OVER 400 WORKERS

ABIAOver four hundred temporary staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike Abia state employed between November 2015 and February 2016 have been suspended by the University council.

The Public Relations Officer, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Mrs Adanma Odefa, dropped the announced while addressing Newsmen at the University chamber. She noted that the council decided to suspend them due to the fact that their appointments did not follow due process.

Mrs. Odefa however said that the University was investigating the process that led to their temporary appointment and stated that the qualified ones among them may be recalled.

“The total number of people who were suspended are over 400 but not 500 as some media have reported … and constituting over 22% of the entire staff strength.”

On the alleged plans to sack some staff of the University on the grounds of states of origin, sex or religion, Mrs. Odefa noted that it was not true describing it as a fabricated story aimed at maligning the good image of the Vice Chancellor.
