GOVERNOR UGWUANYI EMPOWERS TRADES IN ENUGU STATE

trade2 One hundred traders in Enugu State have benefited from the ₦5,000,000.00 monthly draw scheme introduced by the state government to aid traders overcome the present economic hardship facing the country.

The introduction of the exercise tagged traders empowerment scheme was the resolution of the state executive council aimed at providing succour to the traders in the state.

Handing over cheques of ₦50,000. 00 each to the traders during the commencement of the exercise at Ogbete Main Market Enugu, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi said that the exercise would cut across all markets in the state.

Governor Ugwuanyi said that the exercise was in line with his administration’s promise to reactivate the economy of the state.

 “ In line with our promise, to declare government resources and services to create fair and equal opportunity to every willing citizen to make a living in a peaceful and secure environment”, he said.

 The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, who explained the process involved in the exercise, said that all registered traders were eligible to participate in the process.

 “It is a project aimed at empowering traders with a monthly cash grants and will be drawn from major markets in the state. The process of selecting winners will be transparent by riffle draws.”

 Similarly, the President General Enugu State Amalgamated Market Traders Association, Mr. Temple Ude and some beneficiaries of the scheme commended the initiative of the government noting that the grant would assist them positively.

The Traders Empowerment Scheme is expected to be conducted across the three senatorial zones of the State.
