EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT DEMANDS DEPLOYMENT OF SOLDIERS AT ITS BOUNDARY WITH CROSS RIVER

cross riverGovernor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has called on the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Brutai to deploy Soldiers to the boundary line between Ebonyi and Cross River States to check the destruction of lives and property occasioned by lingering land disputes in the area.

The Governor made the call at a News Conference addressed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emma Uzor at Government House, Abakaliki. Chief Umahi stated that the call followed an alleged killing of nine persons including a pregnant woman in Ofiaoji community in Abakaliki area of the State by attackers suspected to have come from Obubura in Cross River State.

Governor Umahi lamented that the attack was coming barely few days after he met with the Chief of Army Staff in Enugu and alerted him on the precarious situation along the boundary line and the need to deploy soldiers to the area. Governor Umahi also explained that efforts had been made to reach out to Cross River State Government for a joint solution to the boundary dispute but to no avail.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mr. Jude Madu however said that the Command was yet to receive any report on the alleged attack. Mr. Madu promised to make further investigations into the matter.
