BUS DRIVER CRUSH SELF TO DEATH, MANY PASSENGERS WOUNDED IN ENUGU

An accident that occurred adjacent the New Enugu State Secretariat at about 6pm Wednesday has claimed the life of a bus driver living other passengers in the bus with various degrees of injury.

According to an eye witness, the senior special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on political Matters, Evangelist Chinedu Anichie the bus driver playing old park-New market route was coming down from the Enugu Prisons axis of the road to New market and somersaulted severally and hit an erect pole after losing control of the vehicle allegedly due to break failure.

Evangenlist Anichie said that the driver died instantly as his skull was blown open, as a part of the bus even got burnt.

“I believe it was break failure because I witnessed (heard) a sound of accidental break and there was somersaulting before the bus landed and finally caught fire too. So the driver died instantly. There was shouting and people came, some were injured, about six.”

“The bitter thing is that the Road Safety could not come on time for rescue operation because some of us were not putting on hand gloves. We didn’t have any sanitizer to protect ourselves from blood contact. But we just have to do it because it is humanitarian issue.”

Passers-by who were at the scene of the incident said officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps came and rushed the casualties to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital Parklane while the body of the deceased driver was deposited in a mortuary.
