ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES DISCOVERED IN THE RUNNING OF ESCET

essectThe Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology report has accused the Governing Council of the State College of Education Technical of inappropriate conduct in the running of the institution.

This was contained in a report submitted to the House by the Chairman of the Committee, Chief Erochukwu Ugwueze. Chief Ugwueze who said the report was the outcome of the oversight visit to the institution, alleged the council sat for over eighty times with allowances ranging from forty thousand to sixty- five thousand  naira per sitting as against the approved four sittings yearly.

He regretted that provost of the school had been on acting capacity for over two years which was not the best practice. The report also indicted the governing council for gross administration violations which include sitting for eighty times last year and five times this year against the stipulated provision.

“The committee recommends that the council chairman should be invited alongside members of the council to this honorable house. That the council should furnish the committee with the minutes of the 80 meetings held, the statement of account of the institution and money spent in conveying the 80 meetings.”

The debate on the report was suspended to enable the committee to conclude her investigation with the management. The House equally passed the bill to amend the education law Cap37 2004 of the state. The passage of the bill followed a motion by the Leader of the house, Chief Ikechukwu Ezugwu.

Meanwhile, the Lawmakers has confirmed three commissioner nominees sent to them by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi after screening. The confirmed nominees were Mr Joseph Udedi , Dr Donatus Ani and Mr Robert Ogbuagu. The Speaker of the House, Chief Edward Ubosi commended members of the house for their input during the exercise.

“I want to thank the Chairman of House Committee on Education and members for a work well done. I also thank honorable colleagues for their support and contributions.”

Chief Ubosi promised that the house would always live up to her constitutional obligations and called for support.
