Aggrieved residents of Emene, Enugu protest against blockade of road

emene2Residents of Airport Extension Layout Emene in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have appealed to the government to compel contractor handling projects in the area to remove their debris which has blocked the access road.

They made the appeal during a peaceful protest at the Enugu State House of Assembly Complex.

Some of the protesters, Mr. Emeka Ochiagha and Mrs. Helen Uzoagba who spoke with Radio Nigeria said the conduct of the contractors had paralyzed socio-economic activities in the area.

Theyblamed the difficulty on the on-going construction of the free trade zone site.

“For the past one month, our road has been blocked by a certain project going on at the airport community’ even if you are trekking , you find it difficult to pass. Everybody is suffering“

The protesters carried placards with different inscriptions such as “Governor Ugwuanyi give us road, citizen’s rights are not to be violated, please provide us with road.

Addressing the protesters, the Speaker of the House, Chief Edward Ubosi appealed for peace, noting that their plight would be addressed.

“Please don’t be angry, we shall direct them to provide access road to you for the meantime .We regret the inconveniences, efforts would be made to address the issue as quickly as possible“
