Cheques worth over fifty three million naira have been issued to forty-four communities in Enugu State to complete their on-going projects under the World Bank Assisted Community and Social Development, CSDP.
In a message during the issuance of the cheques to representatives of the benefiting communities in Enugu, the Governor represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Festus Uzoh directed that the projects for which the outstanding payments were made should be completed before the end of December this year.
“It is good that our people in different communities work hard enough t avail themselves of the opportunities of development projects that the World Bank can support.”
The Governor congratulated the benefiting communities for scaling through the selection process, the Ministry of Rural Development and the CSDP for facilitating it effectively.
The Commissioner for Rural Development, Chief Gab Onuzulike while advising the benefiting communities to make judicious use of the grant, re-emphasised the need for traditional rulers and executive members of the town unions to work in synergy.
In a speech, the General Manager of Enugu State Agency for Community and Social Development Project, Dr. Maximus Asogwa assured that the Agency would ensure proper monitoring.
“As they do the project, our Agency will be there monitoring what they are doing to ensure that not only that the money is not diverted, but that the project is completed at the end of the year.
Two representatives of the benefiting communities, Professor Joseph Okoro-Akpa of Ekpulato Mgbowo, Awgu LGA and Mr. Emenike Aniebon of Umudioha Imezi Owa in Ezagu LGA expressed gratitude to the government for its efforts to ensure that the projects were not abandoned.
“It will be completed on time and perfectly done.”
“The job will be completed, it’s electrical extension.”
Traditional rulers , Executive members of Town Unions and some government functionaries attended the event.
