Ebonyi State Government has sworn in thirteen newly elected Local Government Chairmen and their running mates to serve a two year tenure in office. At the event at the Ecumenical Centre Abakaliki, Governor David Umahi tasked the Chairmen to deepen infrastructural development in the hinterlands.

Also sworn in at the event were some Special Assistants to the Governor, members of Universal Basic Education Board, Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission and Local Government Advisory Committee. Others were some Development Centre Coordinators, State Agricultural Land Development Authority Board members and Acting Accountant General of the State.

Of the thirteen Local Government Chairmen, four were women while eight were re-elected to serve a second term in office. Governor Umahi noted that some of the Council Chairmen were returned to office because of their giant strides in economic development during their first term and urged them to continue from where they stopped.

He noted that the frequent change in the appointment of Accountant General was informed by the policy of the state government to make the office Information Communications Technology Compliant so as to attract some grants from World Bank. The Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area, Mrs. Chinyere Iyioku, said they were committed to replicating the developmental agenda of the state government in the council areas.

The Local Government Chairmen and One hundred and Seventy One Councillors were elected in a Local Government Election conducted on Saturday August 29.
