Toure hangs international boots
Amid the furore over Yaya Toure’s uncertain future at Manchester City, the Ivorien has announced his international retirement, bringing an end to a glittering career with the Elephants.
The 33-year-old made his debut for the senior national side 12 years ago, going on to score 19 goals in 102 appearances for the West Africans.
The Manchester City midfielder represented the Cote d’Ivoire at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup, while also leading the Elephants to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations title.
“There are decisions that are difficult to take. But, I have to pass the baton on to the younger generation,” he said in a statement.
“After 14 years at most levels with the Elephants, I have come to the end of my adventure with the Ivory Coast.”
